Hadrian’s Wall Path – Day 0

28/08/2015

Getting there and packing list We started our Hadrian’s Wall Path adventure by almost missing the train from Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan due to organiser error … luckily the Scouse Spouse asked how long the train journey would be and this made me double check! He caught the train straight after work, I met him with … More Hadrian’s Wall Path – Day 0

Back from Hadrian’s Wall!

27/08/2015

I am now back from my Hadrian’s Wall Path walk and comfortably settled on the sofa again. (It won’t last long; more of which later.) A short summary might be in order: We called ourselves Contrarians, as we walked it from West to East, unlike the great majority of Wall Walkers (Conformists), but were pleased … More Back from Hadrian’s Wall!

To boot or not to boot?

14/08/2015

Now that is a question. When I started researching appropriate footwear for Hadrian’s Wall, the concensus seemed to be that you need waterproof boots. Which is fine for some, lots of people like wearing boots for all sorts of walks. It’s just … I really don’t. I prefer shoes, I like the lightness of them, I like the … More To boot or not to boot?

Hadrian’s Wall is happening!

10/07/2015

The Scouse Spouse has now booked time off work for our Hadrian’s Wall Path walk later this summer. We are set on walking it West to East and treating ourselves to B&B, hotel and pub/inn accommodation, so while he was out yesterday I sat down and looked through two guidebooks plus the interactive planning website … More Hadrian’s Wall is happening!

Hadrian’s Wall planning

14/06/2015

At the moment the Scouse Spouse and I are planning on a quick holiday walking Hadrian’s Wall in the North of England, but it’s early days – Do we want to go westwards or eastwards? Camping or B&B-ing it? What time of year? How busy is it? – so for now I’ll be posting links here that … More Hadrian’s Wall planning

Hadrian’s Wall packing list

14/06/2015

Here’s my updated, after-the-fact packing list for our summer 2015 walk from West to East along Hadrian’s Wall. This is an all-in, from-skin-out (FSO) list, so everything I wear or am carrying is included. We stayed in B&Bs, so the bivvy bag, sleeping bag, towels and camp stove stayed at home. Osprey Tempest 30L pack Altus rain … More Hadrian’s Wall packing list

Bits of my #SantiagodeCompostela #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #pilgrimlife #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Arrived! New wide route for #pilgrims to get in, though still no arrows on Cervantes Square to guide them to the right and on to the Obradoiro in front of the cathedral #endofcamino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Another bright and beautiful day, another easy and beautiful walk on the #caminodesantiago to #SantiagodeCompostela #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Arzúa to O Pedrouzo was a beautiful walk in the woods - and in a seemingly never ending queue. I was lucky enough to have great company and managed to get the very last bottom bunk in the Mirador albergue in O Pedrouzo in a room with a balcony overlooking the pool 👍 #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #pilgrimlife #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Turns out the @razas_gastrobar also serves the white unicorn of the #caminodesantiago - chocolate #Santiagocake!! #camino2022 #nidarosaeating #somewhereslowly Leaving #Melide my feet were feeling a lot better, and the weather was perfect for a short 15 km bimble to Arzúa, where I saw a massive #paella cooking and ended up having a lovely #arepa at @razas_gastrobar #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly When in #Melide... #zamburiñas and #pulpo in the classic #Ezequiel pulperia #pilgrimlife #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Off to Palas de Rei and Melide on another misty #Galicialove morning from the Ant Palace via spooky graveyards and atmospheric woods to lighting a candle in a church for a friend #caminodesantiago #pilgrimlife #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Walking in the mist again from Portomarin to Gonzar and then it got sunny and warm for the visit to #Castomaior and the old iron age (I think) hillfort that most pilgrims miss. @jawoll.nicole was speeding up to get to Finisterre, I trundled leisurely with my new Canadian #camigas. On the last leg we even saw a brand new cow, still wet and exhausted from birth! Stayed in the Paso de Formiga, the Ant Palace #pilgrimlife #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly
