Singing in the rain

10/09/2020

(From our walk in late February to early March 2020) With only two walking days left, and dry shoes, the walk to Pedrouzo should be a breeze in spite of the weather. A long section of it is on a nice, quiet forest road, and at the end of it is Salceda, where we had … More Singing in the rain

Wet winter walk to Arzúa

09/09/2020

(From our walk in late February to early March 2020) It really wasn’t a promising start. The coffee was delicious but the weather … oh well. Only a few days left, we were determined to enjoy them! The lady in the café where we had breakfast just shook her head and pulled her chuncky cardigan … More Wet winter walk to Arzúa

Short winter walk to Melide

07/09/2020

(From our walk in late February, early March 2020) The next day, everything was still wet. Everything. Puddles everywhere. Pretty soon my feet were wet too – a certain Scouse Spouse, on the other hand, had goretex shoes and was very smug and pleased with himself. We stopped for a good breakfast at a bar … More Short winter walk to Melide

Making our way to Palas de Rei

07/09/2020

(From our walk in late February and early March 2020) This was the view from our window when we woke up to rather grey and drizzly morning in Portomarin. The rooms are in a different building to the restaurant and bar where you check in, so we packed up everything and went there to hand … More Making our way to Palas de Rei

Winter walk to Portomarin

06/09/2020

(From our walk in late February, early March 2020) Sarria! Normally the narrow street in the little town would be heaving with excited pilgrims starting their first walking day, and dusty long distance walkers going head down, full speed to get ahead of the colourful, energetic (and fragrant) crowds. We had breakfast at the Mesón … More Winter walk to Portomarin

Winter walk to Sarria

05/09/2020

(From our walk in late February to early March 2020) From Triacastela you have a choice of routes. The two markers at the end of the main street tell you all you need to know, but still there are people ending up on the wrong one every year, probably every day. Rule of thumb: turn … More Winter walk to Sarria

Sunny winter walk to Triacastela

04/09/2020

(From our winter camino, late February to early March 2020) In the morning, when we finally woke up, we enjoyed the luxury of getting dressed in clothes that had been warming up nicely on the radiator. We headed out to visit the church and thank Don Elias, who is buried to the left of the … More Sunny winter walk to Triacastela

A cold O Cebreiro by night

01/09/2020

(From our winter camino, late February to early March 2020) Another lovely day, and a tentatively better ankle! We decided to forego the breakfast in the busy motel café and hoped there would be an open bar in Ambasmestas or Vega de Valcarce. If nothing else, the local shop would have some food and drink … More A cold O Cebreiro by night

Sightseeing in Villafranca

30/08/2020

(From our winter camino, late February to early March 2020) Oh, the bed was lovely and the day outside was so, so grey and miserable. The ankle was no better, and we were now bandaging it and the Scouse Spouse was taking anti-inflammatory painkillers. Sad, but it is what it is. There would be no … More Sightseeing in Villafranca

Winter wander to Villafranca

30/08/2020

(From our winter camino, late February to early March 2020) After a good night’s sleep and ankle rest, we woke up to yet another beauty of a day. The world was hustling and bustling on the square outside while we had our morning coffee, and the lady in reception kindly booked a taxi to take … More Winter wander to Villafranca

Bits of my #SantiagodeCompostela #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #pilgrimlife #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Arrived! New wide route for #pilgrims to get in, though still no arrows on Cervantes Square to guide them to the right and on to the Obradoiro in front of the cathedral #endofcamino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Another bright and beautiful day, another easy and beautiful walk on the #caminodesantiago to #SantiagodeCompostela #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Arzúa to O Pedrouzo was a beautiful walk in the woods - and in a seemingly never ending queue. I was lucky enough to have great company and managed to get the very last bottom bunk in the Mirador albergue in O Pedrouzo in a room with a balcony overlooking the pool 👍 #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #pilgrimlife #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Turns out the @razas_gastrobar also serves the white unicorn of the #caminodesantiago - chocolate #Santiagocake!! #camino2022 #nidarosaeating #somewhereslowly Leaving #Melide my feet were feeling a lot better, and the weather was perfect for a short 15 km bimble to Arzúa, where I saw a massive #paella cooking and ended up having a lovely #arepa at @razas_gastrobar #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly When in #Melide... #zamburiñas and #pulpo in the classic #Ezequiel pulperia #pilgrimlife #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Off to Palas de Rei and Melide on another misty #Galicialove morning from the Ant Palace via spooky graveyards and atmospheric woods to lighting a candle in a church for a friend #caminodesantiago #pilgrimlife #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Walking in the mist again from Portomarin to Gonzar and then it got sunny and warm for the visit to #Castomaior and the old iron age (I think) hillfort that most pilgrims miss. @jawoll.nicole was speeding up to get to Finisterre, I trundled leisurely with my new Canadian #camigas. On the last leg we even saw a brand new cow, still wet and exhausted from birth!
