Here’s my updated, after-the-fact packing list for our summer 2015 walk from West to East along Hadrian’s Wall.
This is an all-in, from-skin-out (FSO) list, so everything I wear or am carrying is included. We stayed in B&Bs, so the bivvy bag, sleeping bag, towels and camp stove stayed at home.
Osprey Tempest 30L pack
Altus rain poncho
Lightweight wind and waterproof jacket (which wasn’t)
Salomon trail shoes (or did I need boots?)
Teva Terra Fi Lite sandals as spares/change
Craghoppers Nosilife stretch walking trousers (took longer to dry, too bulky)
Craghoppers Kiwi Pro walking trousers (tried and tested, no problems)
2 x Merino short sleeve tops
Merino long sleeve top
Fleece jacket or merino cardigan (took both, I do like my cardi)
Buff and merino infinity Buff used as a scarf
3 x short coolmax ankle socks (my 1000 mile ones dry quicker though)
Underwear
Wash bag/toiletries
Shared:
Small first aid kit and foot care stuff
Water bottle with filter
Some food/snacks eg fruit, peanuts, chocolate
Sitmats (used only once, might as well have left them and sat on a plastic bag or our rain gear)
This kit served us well – the Scouse Spouse carried the same sort and amount of stuff. I never really used my fleece as I preferred the merino long sleeve while walking and we stayed in hotels or pubs in the evening so didn’t need to really go outside after our showers. Scouse Spouse never used his sun protective anti-wrinkly pale blue shirt which I keep packing for him. Other than that all was used and all worked brilliantly.
