Top pilgrim tip: Non-alcoholic drinks

17/02/2022

There are many reasons why you might want to limit your drinking or avoid alcohol altogether while on the camino. For one thing, when you are spending your day walking through the heat and dust and relentless sun, alcoholic drinks are not your best friend – what you need is hydration, hydration, hydration. Obviously your … More Top pilgrim tip: Non-alcoholic drinks

Camino 101 – Q & A

07/03/2021

I remember when I started planning my first walk on the camino and the many questions I had. And then when I told others about it, they sometimes asked questions I couldn’t answer. So here’s some of the absolute basics, in case you or a loved one is planning on walking it and you find … More Camino 101 – Q & A

Top pilgrim tip: Brita filter bottle

14/10/2019

I have always been a water snob. I am Norwegian and used to drinking crystal clear, cold, clean water, and can’t stand chlorinated and smelly water no matter how safe it is. I have also always tried to avoid excess plastic waste, and didn’t want to be one of the many, many pilgrims (and other … More Top pilgrim tip: Brita filter bottle

Top pilgrim tip: The Boil Coil

29/03/2016

The Boil Coil, or electric coil, cup boiler, immersion heater, travel kettle element … whatever you call it, it deserves a big round of applause. You know the thing I mean, right? No? Here’s one. Ignore the plug, these come in US, UK, EU and even USB versions, and probably others too. And what can … More Top pilgrim tip: The Boil Coil

Top pilgrim tip: The Clara

17/07/2015

When people think back on the culinary joys of the Camino, they tend to think of chorizo, manchego cheese, pulpo, bocadillos, cerveza, vino tinto … but I have a very special favourite: The Clara. Sometimes called Clara con Limón, sometimes ready mixed with its own tap in bars. So what is it? A Clara is, … More Top pilgrim tip: The Clara

Bits of my #SantiagodeCompostela #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #pilgrimlife #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Arrived! New wide route for #pilgrims to get in, though still no arrows on Cervantes Square to guide them to the right and on to the Obradoiro in front of the cathedral #endofcamino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Another bright and beautiful day, another easy and beautiful walk on the #caminodesantiago to #SantiagodeCompostela #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Arzúa to O Pedrouzo was a beautiful walk in the woods - and in a seemingly never ending queue. I was lucky enough to have great company and managed to get the very last bottom bunk in the Mirador albergue in O Pedrouzo in a room with a balcony overlooking the pool 👍 #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #pilgrimlife #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Turns out the @razas_gastrobar also serves the white unicorn of the #caminodesantiago - chocolate #Santiagocake!! #camino2022 #nidarosaeating #somewhereslowly Leaving #Melide my feet were feeling a lot better, and the weather was perfect for a short 15 km bimble to Arzúa, where I saw a massive #paella cooking and ended up having a lovely #arepa at @razas_gastrobar #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly When in #Melide... #zamburiñas and #pulpo in the classic #Ezequiel pulperia #pilgrimlife #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #camigas #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Off to Palas de Rei and Melide on another misty #Galicialove morning from the Ant Palace via spooky graveyards and atmospheric woods to lighting a candle in a church for a friend #caminodesantiago #pilgrimlife #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly Walking in the mist again from Portomarin to Gonzar and then it got sunny and warm for the visit to #Castomaior and the old iron age (I think) hillfort that most pilgrims miss. @jawoll.nicole was speeding up to get to Finisterre, I trundled leisurely with my new Canadian #camigas. On the last leg we even saw a brand new cow, still wet and exhausted from birth! Stayed in the Paso de Formiga, the Ant Palace #pilgrimlife #caminodesantiago #camino2022 #nidarosawalking #somewhereslowly
