Just a quick post to share how you can find and keep an eye on the fires along the caminos, towns and cities in Spain at the minute.
If you open Google Maps, pick a location you are interested in, then click on Layers – the little stack of squares marked by the yellow arrow in the first screenshot below. Then choose the information layer with Wildfire, marked by the red arrow. You’ll get the wildfire information added to the other info on the map.
You can then click on the individual wildfire area for more info or zoom in or out to see where the fires are, what roads are closed etc in the vicinity or where you are planning to go.
Hope this helps! I also hope you don’t decide to cancel or postpone your journey. The camino is struggling right now, but it is still there waiting for you just as it always has been. You might have to change your plans, but that can be a blessing in disguise – who knows who you could meet, what wonderful camino magic can happen when you let go and allow circumstances to decide for you?
