This time we left Santiago in a taxi to get to Olveiroa to start walking. The Muxia-Finisterre route splits shortly after O Logoso, so we could walk up there to enjoy their rooms and hospitality – and the hills, the views and the magic balancing stone – one more time before we took the trail to Muxia to finish the loop. Going to a place you have walked to, in a car, makes you realise how far you’ve actually walked! We got out in front of the Loncha restaurant and started our new adventure by celebrating our achievements with a nice lunch. Then off we went, up into the gorgeous hills.

Last time we walked to O Logoso, we didn’t know about the balancing stone or the cooling pond, and we were too tired to go find either of them. I decided to find the stone, at the cost of a day’s walk, and this time we had decided we wanted to visit both.

The weather was perfect for hill walking – cool enough to stop us overheating, sunny enough to get glorious photos. We hardly saw another person and took our time enjoying this revisit and the views. Then after the little bridge the path goes up, and then to the right, straight to O Logoso. But there is another path up to the left, a gravel path curving up and out of sight, and that’s the one we were going for. Follow that and you will find the Pedra do Brazal – the balancing stone.

It was great to be up there again, almost at the top of the hill, looking out far and wide and marvelling at the stone, or stones, perfectly balanced and unmoved for millennia.

Happy with our magical stones we walked down the hill again and carried on to O Logoso, where we checked into yet another lovely and practical room for pilgrims.

Later we enjoyed a drink downstairs with a first time peregrina from the US and invited her and a long distance walker from the UK to have dinner with us. The beauty of these small places is that all the pilgrims staying the night also gather in the restaurant and there is a lovely all-of-us-together atmosphere where no one is left sitting alone (unless they want to). It was a lovely afternoon and evening, but the air was definitely getting cooler, so we decided to check out the forest bathing pool on the way past in the morning.
