2024 – New year, new opportunities

This year will be a year of new challenges and adventures! In two weeks I will be flying off towards Spain – Ryanair messed up my ticket, but the bonus is I’m staying over in Dublin and will meet my camigo David of ClearskiesCamino for tapas and a catch-up. Then the next day I fly to Santiago and, all being well, get the Monbus to Ferrol to meet my camiga Nanci, who I met in 2019 and walked with in 2022 and 2023, to walk the Camino Inglés and then out to Muxia and Fisterra.

And then … for something new. Later in May I’ll join Carol, owner and guide at Camino Confidence, and her group on a slow stroll from Santiago to Muxia and Fisterra, which will be fresh in my memory, to experience the life and work of a camino guide – on-trail training, you might say, as I will be leading my own group as a guide in June!

I am so excited, this is something I have been interested in trying ever since I joined the fabulous Colleen of Then We Walked and her group for a camino taster from Pamplona to Logroño in 2019. Walking the camino in good company is pretty much the ideal job!

So now I have lots of camino dates in my diary – guided walks this year and the next, mainly slow strolls in Galicia and on the meseta, and who knows, maybe even further afield depending on interest.

But first of all, a nice relaxing catch-up camino with Nanci along the Galician coast and out to Muxia, which is a new trail for me, and down to Fisterra, completing the loop from last year. We’ll make sure we try all the local delicacies, eat all the seafood and sample the albariños, check out the beaches and beauty spots and road test the new route – is it better than the old one? We will also have a few days in Santiago and intend to make the most of them, since Nanci got so ill last time. All that’s missing is our Canadian camigas from last year, but who knows, we might all be walking together again one day.

Lots to look forward to! I will bring a lightweight keyboard and hope to blog about the Inglés route and Muxia loop as I go. Hope you all have lovely plans for 2024 too, and buen camino!
